I am suppose to help plan a wedding shower. does anybody know any games that we can play?

January 17, 2009

i have never even been to a wedding shower. so I dont even know what regular things you do at one is. And there is going to be some older family there and they are very big bible lovers so no nasty games please.

Buy a whole bunch of cheap toilet paper and pair everyone up. They have to take turns making wedding dresses for eachother out of the toilet paper. (By wrapping it around your clothes to make a top and skirt, tear off pieces and make toilet paper flowers to attach, draping peices over your head for a veil, stuff like that.) It's really fun! Then be sure to take pictures of everyone in their pretty new dresses! (The bride gets to pick whose dress is the best!)

Another fun game is to ask the groom a whole bunch of questions about the bride and their relationship (Such as "what's the bride's favorite color? what did you do on your first date? How many kids do you want to have? What is the groom's favorite food? What superhero would he like to be? etc.) Write them all down and then ask the bride the same questions at the shower. The guests write down how many they think she will get right. See how many she can get right. If she gets one wrong she has to put a piece of chewing gum in her mouth, so if she gets a lot wrong, she's trying to talk with like 10 peices of gum in her mouth! It's really funny.

Anyone ever plan a simple wedding on a Miami area beach?

January 17, 2009

I live in Texas and would like to get married on a Miami area beach before setting sail on our honeymoon cruise. It will just be him and I. Has anyone out there done this before? Any contacts or info for that area would be appreciated.

Haven't done it, but I know people who have in a beachfront hotel. Contact the hotel concierge or catering office & they'll handle it. OR, if you have a beach front restaurant in mind, they may handle it. OR, if it's just the two of you, you will need: A Miami-Dade marriage license (no waiting period; but get it at least the day before to avoid glitches; you need picture ID. I believe there is a branch clerk in the Miami Beach City Hall who can issue them); a Notary Public or Judge, Deputy Clerk or ordained clergyman, and a witness to endorse the license. Then just troop them out to the beach; say the words; have the witness & Marrying officer endorse the license & pour yourselves a drink. Don't forget to mail back the signed license (suggest you make a photo-copy first). Congratulations.

Catering your own wedding?

January 17, 2009

After my own crazy experience of trying to plan my wedding which will be October 13th… I figured there are probably others out there that like me, want to cater their own wedding. Well, my future husband has been a chef for 11 years and we decided that other people may have use for a book (we are in the process of writing it) that includes easy to follow, but elegant recipes with menu suggestions so that people can cater their own weddings without having to put out all the crazy expense of having a company do it. Included would be set up ideas for displaying the food, as well as garnishing ideas. Each with step by step details to make it easy for the less experienced! Would you have a use for this book? Would it make planning for your big day easier? What would you expect to pay for this type book?

How do you plan for a nice, small wedding when you live pay check to pay check?

January 17, 2009

We're trying to plan a small but lovely Japanese themed wedding on a next to nothing budget. Any suggestions?

Cut back on things that you don't absolutely need. For example do you need to have cookies or soda every week in the shopping? You can simply not buy them and put the money aside for the wedding. You don't need alcohol or new clothes or to go out to dinner or the cinema either. You would be surprised how quickly these things add up. Just those 4 things are at least $150.

You could also sell you things that you don't use anymore. EBay is good for that.

You can get a second job.

You can ask your parents for a little bit of help.

You can have a potluck reception in a place that you don't have to pay to rent (park), or stick to a dessert only or a cocktail reception.

Also make the things for the wedding yourself. It is heaps cheaper.

I need to plan a wedding on a budget….?

January 17, 2009

I am getting married on Halloween and need to start planning everything! Can anyone give me advise on how to plan a classy wedding on a budget? Thank you so much!
Halloween 2009 (sorry I didn't add that)

Halloween this year? You better get rockin :)

Invitations/Programs – I’ve heard making your own is a pain. I did my invitations and I thought it was fun! You can get nice cards from Target, Wal-Mart, Craft stores or party stores. Just run them through your printer and your good to go! They also make nice program paper that works the same way. Or if you or someone you know has Photoshop you can custom make your own invitations and programs and they can turn out great & totally unique.

Dress – Target sells wedding gowns and they’re actually really nice! The website doesn’t do them justice; I found them to be just as nice if not nicer quality than some bridal gowns from bridal salons. Try http://ebay.com & http://craigslist.org for good deals on used and even for people who are willing to make them for you. There are a few websites in China that make “knock off” gown such as http://www.peridress.com/shop/home.php But I would look around before purchasing there.

Decorations & ceremony supplies – http://orientaltrading.com – has tons of decorations for weddings and other themes for pretty cheap. I bought most of my decorations at orientaltrading. Also http://save-on-crafts.com/ they have lots of stuff for good prices as well.

Check Craigslist.org often times brides will sell leftover decorations after their weddings and you can get a ton of stuff for cheap. Also check EBay for the same reasons. I found tons of decorations on both eBay & craigslist for pretty cheap.

Dollar Stores have a decent selection you may need to visit a few but they usually have some decorations. They have candles and things that can be used as centerpieces. Often times they have a wedding section with lots of decorations.

Target & Wal-mart also have decent wedding selections although they are usually the highest price of the things I have listed. Target has tons of nice looking stuff; most of it has to be purchased online however. Wal-Mart has lots in their stores but IMO not as nice as Target, although it is cheaper. You can always buy things and dress them up yourself if you feel like being crafty.

Craft stores like Hobby Lobby & Michaels have great wedding sections. You can save a lot of money by making your own supplies and craft stores have lots of stuff to do just that. For instance in my wedding we are doing a sand ceremony. I found several sand ceremony kits online for $40 – $50 but I made my own for under $15.00.

Cake – Wedding Cake – Super Target has great cakes and are quite a bit cheaper. Also Wal-Mart has decent cake and might be a good place to try too. Again Craigslist.org will probably put you in touch with a good baker again I found tons of them in my area.

DJ/Music – Again check craigslist.org for a DJ or band. I found some great people that were just starting out for a lot cheaper than some larger companies. I got a pretty good deal on a DJ for the whole night for under $200. Or if you have your own sound equipment you can do it yourself. It may be cheaper to locate a DJ as opposed to buying equipment if you don’t already have it. I’ve also seen bands that will play a wedding for cheap.

Flowers – Hobby Lobby has tons of silk flowers. I’d also check other craft stores if Hobby Lobby is not an option. I found good deals on bouquets & things on Ebay & Craigslist. If you are like me and not so much into flowers check into alternative decorations. I’m having a beach wedding so my bouquet is a seashell bouquet and was a blast to make. I’m also using seashells for centerpieces; you can usually buy a large container of them at a craft store for $10.00.

Photography – See if you can get a friend to help with photography. Or craigslist.org is a great place to search for photographers just starting out! Often times you can get them to shoot your wedding digital for under $100. I've even seen people offer to do it for free just for experience.

Food – You can also check craigslist.org for caterers. Again I found many people just trying to get experience that would do it for much cheaper than a larger company. Or ask friends & family for help. You can always do a potluck or BBQ kind of thing. Depending on the time of day “heavy appetizers” are appropriate and that can save money. Also depending on time of day large deli sandwiches and finger foods can be great for the reception.

Venue – Try to have your wedding at your own home, a friend’s home a park, beach or a church are usually the cheapest places. It is also worth it to check out wedding chapels or hotels that offer package deals (venue + catering) etc… you never know what you’ll find by shopping around.

Hotel expenses – Hotwire.com usually has great deals on hotels. You can save a ton by booking here for your wedding night or honeymoon.

Planning – Also check out http://theknot.com & http://weddingwire.com for planning. I bought this from Target http://www.target.com/Target-Club-Wedd-W… and it has been a ton of help in planning and staying on budget.

Good, yet cheap, online wedding planning certification. Do you know of anything that fits that criteria?

January 17, 2009

I am considering going into wedding planning, but every course I’ve looked into has been around $700. Is that the norm? Right now I do not have ther spare cash with medical expenses, my own wedding less than a year away, job change, etc so any cheaper (but still quality) courses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Depends where you live really but if you are in australia there is this site http://www.weddingplanningschool.com.au/wedding_planner_options.htm If you are in america there is this site http://www.superweddings.com/weddingconsulting.html

How to plan a wedding reception? What is the order of typical events?

January 17, 2009

A very traditional order -
Let’s say your ceremony was 2:30 p.m., then you would all go for photographs.
Cocktails 5:00 p.m.
Dinner 6:00 p.m., program follows with toasts, etc. Wedding party arrives just before dinner.
about 8:00 p.m. – cake cutting
about 8:30 p.m. – first dance, family dances, wedding party dance, open dance for all
around 10:30 p.m. – bouquet and garter toss, just before break for late lunch
Then dancing resumes til when you have your venue for, as long as you have your music, as long as you have the license for the open bar.

How do I Start to plan my wedding???

January 17, 2009

I am getting married and I have no Idea what to start with…
what do i start planning first? Does Anyone know of a good wedding planning Organizer where I can write down all tips, ideas,???
Some one with any advice please help……

well the first thing that you need to get is the venue that you would like to married at, because those are the ones that get booked right away…next you need to start looking for the dress that you want because some places they take about 6 months to make. also look for a good photographer, then the cake, then take everything slowly and in order in that way everything will fall through.
good luck

I have no idea! (wedding planning)?

January 17, 2009

okie to start off certian things have all ready been picked such as the date 3-24-09 (3 being my lucky # 24 being his) & also after all ready a lot of aruging about where to have it (I'm from Minnesota he's from NY so we are both wanting it in our home state which isnt looking likely for either)
So we decided to have it in Vegas seeing as it's one of the more cheaper places to fly (& stay if you know the right places) Plus we love it there it was our first vaction we took together.
But my question is how do you start planning a wedding when you dont know how many ppl are gonna be there? We both want to invite a lot but I am full awear we will probaly get only like our close close family & friends (I would say around 50) but I dont want to make an esitmate & be wrong. Plus we arent sending out the invites till like 6months before the wedding (so ppl can get there stuff together) How can I make sure I know how many ppl we will have so I'm not blind sided?

There is a poster named Breezer that posts in here, she has an avatar that is a picture of her wearing her veil, she is who you want to talk to, she planned a destination wedding to Las Vegas recently and can help you, she's real nice. Look for her avatar and email her or start a thread asking specifcally for her.
Good luck!
