OK I just got engaged, and I have a nice long time to plan my wedding, but where do I start?!?

November 3, 2009

What books are good for those of us who are super-clueless as to how to get things rolling? I need help with etiquette, traditions, planning the ceremony and reception, pretty much everything. We want to get married in fall 2011 or maybe a little earlier. If there were any books, websites, or other resources that helped you to plan a low-budget, mostly DIY wedding, I would LOVE to hear about them! Right now I am feeling extremely overwhelmed!

My fiancee got a lot of planning ideas from this site, its like an online scrapbooking thing.

careful though its highly addictive.

How to Plan a Tulum Destination Wedding

November 2, 2009

I still remember my wedding day, that day was the greatest day of my life. When the idea came up to my head to celebrate my wedding in Tulum (the Mexican Caribbean), my happiness was so great that I just couldn’t believe it, to many wonderful ideas appear in my mind. One of the first things I thought was to gather all family members and close friends, so we could spend the best time of our life with the people that we really love, but then again I thought, how am I going to take care of all my guests and planning ??

The wedding idea its self was in Fact a marvellous idea, a wedding in the beach, with all the closest people we love, the Mexican Riviera Maya, but, I just didn’t have any clear idea of how organize such a big destination wedding, also, I didn’t even know the place well, and I had no clue how to organise such a wedding.

Luckily a friend of mine advised me where to seek for information about weddings, she told me about a specific wedding agency that would take care of all my problems. To be honest, I never thought about my guest or what to do after or before the wedding, but the agency took care of everything.
When I contacted the agency they asked me what kind of wedding I would like to have, honestly I didn’t imagine that there would have several options from where to chose, I come from a conservative family so I was imagining myself in my white long bride dress and a wonderful ceremony but everything inside the normal standards and the traditional thing. The agency has several options for different kind of people, including religions or whatever the client ask for. At the beginning was pretty difficult to chose what I wanted but eventually everything was finally easy to choose.
When we arrived to Tulum three days earlier, we were just receiving kind attention and advises for the wedding, at first I just wanted a regular and traditional wedding and eventually I decided for a Mayan wedding.
We performed the “ceremonia de los cuatro vientos ” (4 wind ceremony). The shaman told us that the ritual was in order to call the forces of the positive energies, when or guest surrounds us in a circle, we were left right in the middle of the circle right before the sea, I felt so different like never before and yes, indeed I felt the magical positive energies that they mentioned before.

The day after the wedding they organised a tour around the most hidden and worderful places of the Rivera Maya, those places were marvellous, the beach, the pyramids, the holy cenotes, and the party atmosphere has nothing to compare with.
I do not regret for my choice. Celebrate my wedding day in the Mexican Caribbean, with all the magnificent support work from hard Mexican workers Tulum Weddings Destination which they know by excellence every detail, traditions, the most magical and incredible places of the Rivera Maya, no doubt I made the right choice.
Thanks to Tulum Weddings Destination and Tulum Wedding Coordinators

How do I handle wedding plans during an interview?

October 29, 2009

I recently got engaged to be married next year in September. I’m currently job-searching and wondering what to say if an interviewer notices my engagement ring. I don’t want to not be hired based on the date of my wedding. How should I answer?

Why would it matter? Next year is far away. You will be fine.

How To Plan A Wedding Cruise And Make It A Dream Wedding!

October 26, 2009

If you’re getting married and you would like a wedding unlike any other, why not try a romantic wedding cruise?

Wedding cruise honeymoons come in various different packages and it is always a good idea to shop around before you make a choice. In making a decision, here are some factors to consider:

* How Relaxing Do You Want The Cruise to Be? – Do you want an active wedding cruise where you and your loved one go places and partake in many different activities? Or, simply lazing around is your stuff?

* Where Do You Want The Cruise to Stop – Some wedding cruises will take you to more than one place. It may even be possible to stop at around two to three different places on your journey. Plan your journey. An example of a cruise which stops at different destinations includes the ‘Adventure of the Seas’ cruise. That one will take you from Puerto Rico to Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Thomas.

* Does It Fit Your Budget? – Depending on the kind of package you are going for, a wedding cruise can be quite expensive! A basic wedding cruise package can be anything as little as $800! That is much cheaper than an ordinary wedding. Packages vary widely and you could pay as little as $399 for a seven night cruise all the way up to over $1,000. Remember to ask for discounts or any freebie to get better value for your money.

So, how do you make it a dream wedding? Here’s what you can do…

Try going to some romantic locations. For example, a wedding cruise to the Maldives may be more romantic than a trip to Disneyland, and a trip to the Caribbean would be a lot more romantic than a trip to somewhere local. Is there a special place your partner wanted to visit? Why not, visit that place because it will be a dream come true for both of you!

Another way you can make the trip romantic is by booking extras on your wedding cruise. For example, taking part in events such as a jazz evening or enjoying a pampering spa experience. Remember to include romantic dinners, exotic flowers and champagne to celebrate this significant day!

Other activities may include snorkelling, a welcome ceremony, and a private picnic. All packages vary so check with your travel agent to see what is included with your wedding cruise.

Learning how to plan a wedding cruise together could just be one of the most memorable things you can do with your partner. Plan it together, enjoy it together, and always remember this romantic wedding cruise for life!

How to Plan a Cheap Wedding – 8 Essential Areas to Focus on

October 26, 2009

If you are going to plan the perfect wedding free from hassle and without burning a hole in your pocket then you are going to have to be prepared to do a little research and learn how to negotiate a better deal for the services you require. Hiring a wedding planning expert can definitely help you save time but you will be paying for their services which will add to your cost base. Organising a wedding months in advance gives you plenty of time to do your research and preparation without causing you stress. A do it yourself approach requires an investment of your own time. If you want to save money then this is a great way to go. It can actually be fun and a challenge to plan a low budget wedding. For the uninitiated there are eight areas where you can save the most money.

These 8 areas will require to draft up a budget to establish your guidelines. If you have a figure to work with then you can allocate amounts to each of these 8 areas. By working out the essential costs and trading off on non essential areas you can reach a balanced approach.

How to plan a low cost wedding: Focus on these eight specific areas.

Food:
When it comes to food there are a number of creative ways to save on food costs. Wedding venues that cater for the event will build healthy margins into the food they serve as is expected when running a business. They will also charge differently depending on the day of the week and time of the day. By doing some leg work you can pick a venue and establish your cost guidelines that fits in with you budget allocations. Sometimes picking a venue that doesn’t break the bank and using your own source of catering can end up being cheaper. Examine the options before you proceed.

Bar:
Buying wholesale will definitely save you money. If you use a reception center this is not likely permitted. By hiring your own venue you may be able to assemble your own team of caters/waiters and supply the alcohol and food. If you find a suitable venue then this low budget wedding tip can save you thousands alone.

Wedding attire:
In general, the more formal you make the occasion the more expensive the cost. Consider employing a less formal approach. You can still look stunning by selecting wedding attire that doesn’t cost a fortune. Custom made dresses are often expensive and if you do some research you can often find a discount designer dress at a greatly reduced price.

Flowers:
Select flowers that are stunning in appearance but not as expensive as high end alternatives. There are also other ways to employ decorations that can minimize your investment in flowers. By having one main centerpiece and using other decorations you can greatly reduce the money you need to allocate towards floral arrangements.

Photography & Videography:
This is a major cost and is something you will need to carefully consider. Having a professional do the job is essential because it is something you will cherish for years to come. If you are investigating cost cutting in this area you need to make sure that the person you employ has the necessary professional expertise and experience to be able to deliver a high quality reproduction of the event. You can go for a student to reduce costs but you need to make sure they will be able to handle the job.

Music:
If you are going to hire someone to provide the music this will add additional expense. You can save in this area by using prerecorded music or by hiring a person who is musically talented but doesn’t charge professional rates. Asking friends can often produce someone who is talented and can be booked at a greatly reduced cost.

Honeymoon:
Saving money on your honeymoon depends on a number of factors including the time of the year, duration and the honeymoon destination. You will have to be prepared to do extensive online research to find bargains. You can often get a great deal by traveling at the end of the season. Making use of any frequent flyer miles can also help reduce your honeymoon costs.

Guest List:
Keeping the numbers down will greatly reduce your costs. If you have a large guest list then you will need to find an approach that reduces the cost per head. You can also save on your wedding invitations by creating your own. If you add humor to the occasion you can often create memorable invitations that will really strike a chord with your friends for very little outlay.

The above represents some basic guidelines to plan a cheap wedding. The more you research the more creative solutions you will find. It just takes time and a little effort. Creating a memorable wedding that doesn’t cost a fortune is attainable for everyone provided you are prepared to do a little leg work.

My fiance and i are getting married in 6 months. how do we plan a wedding fast and inexpensive?

October 23, 2009

we would like to keep the cost between 2,000 to 5,000 because we are paying with no help from family and we are not out of school yet so we are pretty broke. we thought about a courthouse wedding but we want to do this right since it is our one and only wedding. we only have 6 months and are on a very limited budget any ideas or tips?

1. Keep the wedding party down to only your closest friends/family.
2. Keep the guest list down to only those who mean the most to you.
3. Don’t buy a REAL expensive dress.
4. As far as flowers go, don’t decorate the whole church, just have flowers you and your bridesmaids are holding.
5. Don’t plan a sit down meal reception…serve finger food.
6. You can buy a kit at Walmart to print your own wedding invites.
